2013 Capital cultural de Catalunya opening.
“Standing in the present, with the memory in the past and the gaze fixed on the future.”
Guess the riddle, a cat, seven lives, and a fish, with golden flakes. A room for both. A closed window: a dumb bell. The cat play with the fish. The fish, play with the cat. Every day, the cat walks by and the ticking of the bell rings throughout the room. And every day, the cat is back with the sharpest nails. The cat plays with the fish. The fish, play with the cat. One day, suddenly, the cat comes in hasty and he shows his teeth, and the fish jumps inside the cat’s mouth. Who will die?

cia Sargantana has been using programming and technology in artistic research since 2013, applying mapping and kinect solutions in dramaturgy, mainly. Some of the aspects have been applied professionally to various assemblies: “Ball d’hivern”, “Carmina Transitus”, “La Plana”, “Li / ea / ving”, “De quan tot filava quan filava.”
At the same time, the company has worked on different social artistic projects, and most of its plays are related to social and political themes. “Breus” Project supported by the Sants-Montjuïc district, is one of our latest ways of expression of this kind of work.
Fractal project let the company share its knowledge and research in technology as a vehicle in scenic arts to young people. This project has been possible thanks to the collaboration with Barcelona City Council – Barcelona Activa.
The Fractal Project is aimed primarily at young people between 16 and 29 years of age who are vulnerable, at risk of social exclusion or undocumented.
The social objective of the project is to train new professionals capable of managing technical aspects of live shows through an innovative solution based on technology. Research and training will be carried out by Jordi Pérez i Soldevila.
Immersive and interactive experience about silence.
From birth to death, our relationship with silence changes and goes through many different stages.
Silent is an immersive and interactive proposal that explores the human relationship with silence. An approach to an ethereal universe, that of silence. A universe that runs away from what, for our society, is essential in every relationship: the image.
In a changing space that follows the interaction of the audience and starting from the greatest possible silence, we will experience 9 scenes that want to be a door to reflection on comfort, abandonment, hyperactivity, the absence of silence, the search for silence in the monotony, loneliness and forced silence, the impossibility of experiencing absolute silence or the last silence.
Like silence, which is never the same, this proposal is different and unrepeatable in each presentation.
The actions of the spectators-listeners will build a different universe each time. It will be the relationship with the sound and silence of each of the participants that will define the experience of each sequence. Sometimes individual desires will define the universe of the entire group of viewers. And, as in life, sometimes group decisions will prevail over individual wishes.
In a space where image and sound surround you, will you be able to live in silence and stillness?

Two founders of a theatre company are alone in a secluded theater with nothing else to do but wait for someone to arrive and begin the performance. But frost and soon snow are making this possibility even more unlikely. It is within this atmosphere of solitude and tension that all the demons of Stan and Owsky’s relationship with each other and with the theater world are awakened.
Frustration, envy, vital needs, fears, in short, the corrosion of a long theatrical relationship will come to the surface with the energy of years of containment.

The technological research laboratory is one of the two legs of the company’s research. In 2017, after several years of research in this field within the scenic laboratory, we decided that technological exploration required its own space and we separated it from the scenic laboratory.
Since then, the research has not stopped and has produced different results: a free software for managing live events, training for young people in vulnerable situations, various applications for own productions and collaborations with other companies.
Currently, this research is focused on interactivity, augmented reality, streaming and the use of geolocation in hybrid proposals.
Several projects and collaborations have emerged from technological research, among which we highlight:
The continuous practice of the group brought us to open the iam Studio, an acting studio where we share our knowledge with professional actors.
Since 2009 many actors from 8 different countries (Spain, France, Italy, Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico) have joined the studio to take part in our regular training or in our workshops.
Apart from our own workshops, the iam Studio has invited many researchers and performers to offer their workshops. Since 2011 we’re proud to have hosted Jean-Louis Roqueplan, the Workcenter, Gey Pin Ang, Tebby Ramasike, Roger Ribó.
The iam system is the base of our training and workshops.
The impulse-action motion system is an evolution of the physical actions technique that adds Neurolinguistical programming (NLP) and quantum physics ideas and uses exercises and concepts from aikido, qi gong, meditation and other scenic arts disciplines.
It’s designed to serve nowadays actors, so it helps them no matter if it’s on stage or in front of a camera. However, it’s the actor-creator that will profit the most from it.
The iam system offers not only a way of training but also tools and proceeds to use in any phase of the work: preparation, creation, rehearsal and performance.
The aim of the iam system is to improve the presence of the performer, letting him live the present, calm and attentive, fully and honestly connected with the moment.
Living through action is dedicated to the growth of the artists, through physical, vocal and technical exercises.
An actor needs to be attentive and calm so as to establish a sincere dialogue on stage, needs courage to keep this dialogue all over the performance, and must be free to act and react to the needs of this dialogue. In these sessions we train and develop all those needs.
The dramaturgy of the action explores different aspects of a creation, from the creation process to the relationship actor/audience, the role of the audience or the performing place.
It offers concrete tools to apply in the iam system in a creation.
These sessions can be dedicated to a creation process or a text production
In the 15th anniversary of the company, and after ending the 10th “La Cuina” research group period we trigger a new series of encounters with creators from all around the world.
The trans-borders International work sessions let us start a new investigation journey through a series of deep anthropological, sociological and polytical questions that involves our nowadays existence.
This open call invites national and international artists to respond to these questions, following the principle of openness and sharing that has always characterized our work as a company.
This new shared journey aims to continue the pursuit that started with our “La cuina” research group, but going beyond its work through what we’ve began.
We want to continue the pursuit of an universal language capable of connecting our nowadays audience with its present, connected with its past and that let them project their world to the future.
Quantum physics ideas such as quantum, multiverse, observer, mass-energy; NLP – neuro-linguistic programming – , as well as the introduction of new technologies and the use of traditional music are some of the basis that will set our path.
This work sessions aims to go further not only living through action, thus freeing the creator to be able to transcend, but also in the dramaturgy of the action, defying the relationship with the audience through our bodies, the time and the space.
